How I Incorporate Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback, also called EEG biofeedback, is a technology that teaches people to optimally regulate brain arousal, manage anxiety, stress, mood, sleep and behavior.

This safe, non-invasive therapeutic tool monitors brainwave activity electronically, from electrodes placed on the scalp. Special software monitors rhythmic patterns in brainwaves and changes the sound or an image on the screen to let people know about the brainwave activity they cannot feel.

The clinician sets conditions that let the client know when brainwave activity is moving in the desired direction. For example, the client may hear a tone when the brain is producing brain waves that are related to calming.

These biofeedback procedures move the brain towards efficient functioning. In essence Neurofeedback increases the efficiency of specific brain functions that influence our emotional state and our cognitive functioning.

"I have been using biofeedback and Neurofeedback in conjunction with psychotherapy in my practice for approximately 9 years. For those who have difficulty identifying feelings, biofeedback tools assist you by providing real time feedback of your physiology. This allows you to recognize and manage the body responses associated with emotion.
